Good morning everyone, today was a particularly exciting awakening. when i woke up this morning, when i looked out my window there was a heavy coating of snow on the ground and the road was covered as well. im hoping this is the early start to a snow covered winter, i want to get some use out of my snowboarding equipment that barely saw snow last year.
on to the adventure of this past saturday. as many of you know, a few of my friends and myself decided to take a little road trip through central and northern New York this past weekend. well it was a huge success being that no one was left behind, arrested, or killed in the process. granted the weather was terrible, but all in all it was a great time. we begun the trip heading up redock mountain towards lopez, Pa which i have learned is the coldest place in PA due to some sort of geological pheonomena, and they also have several ww2 style bombs sunk into the soil that have the letters L.O.P.E.Z painted on them. then in the next town over we saw a large rocket at the local VFW post. after almost dying several times we made it to our first destination of Watkins Glen, NY, and much to our dismay parts of the gorge trail in the state park were closed off due to the weather, but we got to see some pretty cool stuff there nonetheless. after getting drenched and adding some “water” to the pond there, we moved on to the finger lakes wine region along the eastern shore of Seneca lake. our first take of New Yorks Finest wine came from probably the most notable vineyard in the Seneca region which is the Hazlitt winery. they are renown for there famous RedCat semi-sweet redwine also know as HHJ or Hazlitt Horney Juice. they had several wines there that were quite fantastic namely the afformentioned RedCat as well as Brambleberry which had a rasberry flavor and paired very well with chocolated to bring out a chocolate rasberry flavor. once we finished up at Hazlitt we made our way to the lake to Wagner Farms where we sampled several wines which didnt impress me much, Wagner Farms made up for there lacking wine in there Brewery where we sample several varieties of beer ranging from IPA’s to Dark stouts. me being the fan of beer so dark you can paint with it, i fell in love with the oatmeal stout. once we finished at wagner farms we stumbled out the door to the car where we began to break away from lake seneca and made our way to the town of Seneca Falls, where much to our disapointment there are no falls, of at least we couldnt find them. next we started our trek northward towards Oswego and lake Ontario. along the way we made one last winery stop, mostly because the sign said “free wine tasting” but unfortunatly there wine wasnt that special. finally at roughly 2:30 pm we arrived in Oswego, New York appoxamatly 7 hours and 220 miles later. once we arrived we drove arround this small town on the southern shore of lake ontario. we decided to stop at a somewhat fancy restaurant called king arthurs steakhouse where we ate lunch. once we left there, we took a rainy walk down to the the shore line and on the way back i mailed out this:
yea thats right, I mailed myself a postcard, and i will probably do it again.
after about 2 hours we decided to make the long trip down to 81 so we could head back home. once we arrived in the binghamton area we stopped to see our friend Mallory in Johnson City, we were there for a while watching tv and telling stories of the day and of our co-workers. finally we made the last leg of the trip home, we arrived back in wyoming, PA around 11:30 pm, and our journey sadly came to an end. don’t worry though, because the next one is already in the works,c’mon you know I can’t sit still that long…
for those interested, here is the route we took:
